DIS-PC Dripper - Pressure Compensated DripperThe DIS-PC Dripper is based on a new concept of Pressure
Compensation (PC), a breakthrough in the PC market of today. The idea is
that the labyrinth length changes dynamically as pressure varies. This new
innovative dripper is unlike ALL the other PC drippers, which use the concept of
restricting the water outlet as a means to regulate water flow. Following is an explanation of the advantages of the
DIS-PC
Dripper and how its original design overcomes the major problems of other
Pressure Compensated emitters: |

The PC Drippers known in the market today achieve their constant flow rate by constricting the water outlet as a function of the pressure in the pipe. At a low pressure, the outlet orifice is large, letting water flow out easily. In a higher pressure the outlet orifice is constricted compensating for the increase in pressure and therefore allowing the same amount of water out. As a result, in medium to high pressures the outlet is reduced dramatically to 0.02 mm2 and the compensation relies entirely on a very small orifice. The small flow path is then vulnerable to clogging due to sediment collecting in that region. Since the outlet becomes so small, any dirt will clog the water path, preventing water from flowing out. The DIS-PC Dripper is based on a whole new concept. The constant flow rate is achieved by changing the labyrinth length dynamically as a function of the pressure. This innovative mechanism changes the labyrinth causing the water to flow through a longer labyrinth at higher pressures and a shorter labyrinth at lower pressures. This method of compensation keeps the cross section of the entire labyrinth constant at 1.0 mm2, which is about 50 times larger then the other PC Drippers. There is no constriction in the water outlet and the constant larger labyrinth cross section is much less likely to clog. A further advantage of the DIS-PC Dripper is its relatively long initial labyrinth, which allows an immediate pressure build-up at the start of the irrigation cycle without requiring high volume/pressure pumps. Other PC Drippers in the market today have the difficulty of achieving the required initial pressure at the start of irrigation. Since their labyrinth is very short, and in a low pressure there is no flow restriction (the drippers do not compensate), water flows out freely. As a result, pressure cannot be built in the system. To overcome this problem, pressure is initially increased to above the normal operating level to restrict the dripper’s outlet and to create the initial pressure. Once the drippers start compensating and pressure is built in the system, the pressure is then reduced down to the normal operating level. This requirement demands the use of larger pumps with higher volume and pressure capabilities. These pumps are generally more expensive and consume more power, which makes the irrigation system more expensive to operate. In contrast thereto the DIS-PC Dripper does not require such initial high pressure to operate due to its relatively long initial labyrinth. Pressure build up can be achieved immediately and without requiring high volume/pressure pumps, which reduces the operational costs. An additional inherent problem of the drippers in the market today is the reduction in flow at high pressures. Since the compensation is achieved by constricting the outlet, once the pressure exceeds the dripper’s operating-level, no water will flow out of the emitter. The DIS-PC Dripper does not restrict the outlet. Once the pressure is above the operating-level of 4 bars, the flow will increase with the pressure. At this point the DIS-PC Dripper reverts to a regular dripper (non-compensating). This added advantage will guarantee water supply to the plant even when pressure is above the operating-level. The DIS-PC Dripper has been in use since 1995 and has proven itself in many types of crop production. DIS is selling the dripper under license to manufacturers of driplines, who need to complement their line of products with a reliable PC Dripper. There are many significant advantages to the DIS-PC Dripper over the competition. The new dripper is based on the latest technology that overcomes the problems of existing PC drippers. The revolutionary DIS-PC Dripper is here to move drip irrigation to a new level of quality.
